AASSA’s 2015 Margaret Sanders Foundation Scholarship Nominee

This year’s Margaret Sander’s Scholarship Award nominee from the AASSA region for her dedication to and embodiment of service to her school and community is Giulia Villanueva López from the American School of Asuncion, Paraguay. There were thirteen applicants this year—the highest number of any year to date.

Giulia-Villanueva-López

Giulia embodies the award Margaret Sanders envisioned when she created her scholarship foundation: she is academically successful, service-minded, involved in all aspects of life, and with a key interest in journalism. Giulia is the Valedictorian of the Class of 2016, a member of National Honor Society, and is an AP Scholar of Distinction. She is involved in a wide variety of service activities from serving as the local President of Operation Smile, the American School Club member, a GIN student, Habitat for Humanity, and a participant in the International Youth Leader Assembly.

Aside from her involvement in yearbook, drama, athletics (volleyball, soccer and tennis), Giulia has attended Northwestern University’s 5-week summer program in journalism, a Reporting Workshop at Boston University, and participated in the Washington Journalism and Media Conferenced at George Mason University.

We look forward to the final selection of recipients in February and hope that Giulia is a recipient of one of the scholarships.
