Announcing the… The AASSA Educators’ Conference 2016

We are now accepting Proposals for:

  1. Learning Lab Leaders (due October 15)

  2. Teacher Workshops (Due October 13) & Exhibitors’ Workshops (Due by October 13)

This is a conference designed for ALL educators since it addresses the core purpose of our work – Looking for Learning. In addition, please note that there are specific strands for:

Counseling, Admissions – Marketing and Communications, Technology, and Innovation

Our new 3-day Main Conference format will provide for a full day of Teacher Workshops on Thursday, followed by two days of featured presenters and Learning Labs taught by our region’s teachers

Main Conference – Synopsis of Biographical Information for Featured Presenters:Kevin BartlettKevin has held leadership positions in the UK, Tanzania, Namibia, Austria and Belgium, where he is currently Director of the International School of Brussels (ISB), a fully inclusive school. He is also the Co-Designer and Co-Leader of two successful global initiatives: The Next Frontier: Inclusion and The Common Ground Collaborative, a curriculum project for international and national schools.Brian Hartman, College BoardBrian joined the College Board as Director, International K-12 Initiatives in 2012 and is responsible for providing support to educational constituents around the world in the areas of academic programming, leadership, strategic planning, professional development, and college and career counseling.John Hnatow, College BoardJohn is an experienced AP Chemistry and Pre-AP science consultant, a chemistry workshop leader, an AP exam reader, table and question leader, and currently is serving on the AP Chemistry Development Committee.Amy Jarich, College BoardAmy is the Assistant Vice Chancellor and Director of Undergraduate Admissions University of California, Berkeley (Berkeley, CA) and currently manages the admission process at UC Berkeley.Laura LiptonLaura is Co-Director of MiraVia, LLC, a publishing and human resource development firm in Charlotte, Vermont. She is an international consultant whose writing, research, and seminars focus on effective and innovative educational practices and on building professional and organizational capacities for enhanced learning.Ewan McIntoshEwan is an award-winning educator and the founder of NoTosh Limited, based in Scotland, Australia and San Francisco, with a global reputation for researching and delivering new learning opportunities for some of the world’s top creative companies and school districts.Jon Nordmeyer, WIDAJohn is the Director of International Programs at the WIDA Consortium, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has been an international educator for 25 years, teaching in Ecuador, The Netherlands, Taiwan, Turkey, China and Thailand.Howard PitlerHoward is the Executive Director of Digital Solutions for McREL International. He joined McREL in 2003 as the Director of Educational Technology. He also served as McREL’s Director of Educational Technology, Senior Director of Field Services, McREL’s Chief Program Officer.Scott PolandScott is a Professor at CPS and the Co-Director of the Suicide and Violence Prevention Office at Nova Southeastern University. He is an internationally recognized expert on youth suicide, self-injury and school crisis and has authored five books on the subject.Martin SkeltonMartin currently is the director of a large group of schools and consultant to companies and schools around the world. Martin designed and led the development of The International Primary Curriculum, co-designed and developed The International Middle Years Programme and developed the Looking for Learning protocol.David WillowsDavid is the Director of Admissions and Advancement at the International School of Brussels. David is also a regular presenter at international conferences, writer and educator in the field of international school branding, admissions, marketing and communications.Laura Zinke

College BoardLaura is a native of Arizona, has been an AP Spanish teacher, on the campus of McClintock High School, for 31 years, and has been the department chair of the Foreign Language Department for 13 years.  Laura has been actively involved in AATSP for the past 25 years; serving as the current President of the Arizona Chapter.John ZolaJohn currently conducts in-service trainings on civic education, Socratic seminars, and engaging teaching strategies in a variety of locations around the United States, Central Europe, Latin America, and Asia. He spent 32 years as a high school social studies teacher; most recently at New Vista High School, a “break the mold” public high school in Boulder, Colorado, and served as a Senior Instructor in the School of Education at the University of Colorado
