Early Childhood Social Emotional Development

Young children bring their whole emotional world into the classroom, and teachers are often the first to help them navigate it. This three-part workshop series equips international school teachers with practical, research-informed strategies for supporting social-emotional development in early childhood settings.

Join Dr. Amber Green, School Psychologist at Linden Global Learning and Support, as she guides you through a progressive, hands-on journey from understanding child development to building responsive classrooms and supporting children who struggle. Each 90-minute session is designed to be immediately applicable, no matter your classroom context.

Module 1: Understanding the Emotional Landscape

What does healthy social-emotional development actually look like in early childhood, and how do you spot when a child needs more support? This opening session gives teachers a shared framework and practical language for understanding where their students are developmentally.

By the end of this module, participants will be able to identify key milestones in early childhood social-emotional development, recognize signs that a child may need additional support, and use a common framework and vocabulary with colleagues and families.

Module 2: Building the Environment and the Relationship

The classroom itself can be one of the most powerful tools for social-emotional growth. This session focuses on the everyday conditions that help young learners feel safe, seen, and ready to connect with others.

By the end of this module, participants will be able to design classroom routines and environments that support emotional regulation, use the teacher-child relationship intentionally as a core support strategy, and apply practical, low-effort adjustments that make a real difference for the whole class.

Module 3: When Children Struggle

Some children need more than a well-structured environment. This final session focuses on in-the-moment strategies for children who have a harder time with regulation, peer relationships, or transitions, and how to bring families and colleagues into the picture.

By the end of this module, participants will be able to respond calmly and consistently to emotional and behavioral challenges, identify when and how to involve families or support staff, and leave with a toolkit of strategies ready to use the next school day.
