A Transformative Leadership Opportunity
Are you ready to embark on a transformative journey in educational leadership? InterAmerican Academy (IAA), a mission-driven AMISA member school, is seeking its next Executive Director (Head of School) to begin in July 2026.
With more than 45 years of academic excellence, IAA is recognized for its personalized learning, innovative practices, and inclusive international community. The school serves students from Nursery 2 through Grade 12 and is accredited by Cognia (SACS-CASI). As Ecuador’s first AP Capstone school, IAA prepares students for success at top universities in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
The new Executive Director will join IAA at a pivotal moment, guiding the school into its next phase of growth, innovation, and strategic renewal.
About InterAmerican Academy
Founded in 1979, InterAmerican Academy has long been a trusted choice for internationally mobile families, including those connected to diplomatic and corporate communities. Its Northern Hemisphere calendar (August–June) makes it uniquely positioned to serve expatriate and local families seeking an American-style education.
The student body represents 22 nationalities, with nearly half of students from Ecuador and the remainder from countries such as the U.S., Venezuela, Spain, France, and Mexico. This diversity enriches the school culture and prepares students to thrive as globally engaged citizens.
IAA’s vibrant academic approach includes:
A U.S.-based curriculum aligned to Common Core Standards
Comprehensive Advanced Placement (AP) offerings, including AP Seminar and AP Research
Standards-based grading and inquiry-driven, project-based learning
Strong student services, including gifted education, English language learner support, social-emotional counseling, and behavioral interventions
Beyond academics, IAA students participate in Week Without Walls, Minimester, senior projects, service learning, and cultural celebrations such as International Day and Día del Libro — programs that strengthen character, global citizenship, and community connection.
Why Lead at IAA?
This role offers a rare opportunity to shape the future of a small, agile international school with a deeply committed faculty and board. The next Executive Director will:
Provide visionary leadership to guide IAA through continued innovation and stability
Strengthen the school’s commitment to belonging, respect, perseverance, and excellence
Lead a faculty engaged in collaborative decision-making and professional growth
Partner with a supportive Board of Directors that includes parents, community leaders, and a representative from the U.S. Consulate
Represent IAA locally and internationally as a leading American international school in Ecuador
The position also offers the benefits and unique lifestyle of living in Guayaquil’s Puerto Azul, a secure gated community favored by expatriate families, where international faculty and staff live in close proximity to the campus.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a mission-driven, visionary leader who demonstrates:
A strong track record in educational leadership (international experience preferred)
Deep knowledge of U.S. curricula and AP programs
A commitment to student-centered learning and continuous school improvement
Skills in strategic planning, enrollment growth, financial stewardship, and community engagement
The ability to thrive in dynamic, multicultural contexts
Proficiency in both English and Spanish is highly desirable
