About the Event

For many, the past year has been quite stressful. Which statement below would you choose to sum up how you feel about this stress:

  1. Stress is harmful and should be avoided, reduced, managed.
  2. Stress is helpful and should be accepted, utilized, and embraced.

Which statement did you choose? This is how Dr. Karen McGonigal begins her book, The Upside of Stress: Why Stress is Good For You, and How to Get Good at It, and she confesses to having to change her beliefs about stress and her approach to dealing with stress because evidence suggests that "stress is harmful only when you believe it is." (You can watch a Ted Talk by her on this subject at this link.)

In order for us to support one another in a collegial way, we would like to offer an online book study of The Upside of Stress for secondary school administrators in AMISA, beginning in mid-September 2021. The book has 7 chapters, so the book study would meet three times, and cover about two of the chapters during each session. No homework other than reading the chapters would be expected. The book is available via Amazon, both in hard copy and electronically. We look forward to sharing together and networking with you through this online book study.

This opportunity has a very limited participant capacity, so register now!
