Module 1: Introduction to Assistive Technology for Learning Support
This three-part workshop series provides educators with practical, hands-on strategies for using assistive technology and AI in everyday teaching. Participants will learn how to support students with learning challenges through assistive technology, and how to use AI responsibly to reduce administrative workload and improve efficiency, while maintaining professional judgment.
The series is led by Eric Hayes, a Learning Support Specialist focused on inclusive education, and Alexis Fernandez, an operations and systems leader specializing in efficiency and AI-driven workflows. Together, they bring complementary expertise in supporting student learning and improving educator practice.
By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
Identify key types of assistive technology for students with learning challenges
Understand how technology can support reading, writing, and executive functioning
Evaluate the benefits and limitations of different assistive tools
Module 2: Integrating Technology into Classroom Instruction
Practical strategies for embedding assistive technology into daily teaching and supporting student independence. The aim is to help teachers move from knowing about assistive tools to using them consistently and confidently across lessons and assessments.
By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
Incorporate assistive technology into daily lesson plans
Support students in using technology to enhance their learning independence
Adapt assignments and assessments to include assistive tools
Module 3: Integrating AI into Everyday Teaching Tasks
Practical ways to reduce administrative load while keeping professional judgment in charge. The aim is to help teachers reduce administrative workload through the practical, responsible use of AI, while keeping professional judgment at the center.
By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
Identify routine tasks that AI can support, including lesson planning, differentiation, parent and administrative communication, and note-taking
Set up reusable AI workflows that save time consistently across the school week
Apply professional judgment when reviewing and adapting AI-generated content to maintain quality and accuracy
Use AI responsibly, with attention to student data, privacy, and school policy
Explore practical examples and tools that can be applied immediately in the classroom
